GRADING POLICY Grading is the academic barometer for students, parents, and teachers to assist them in assessing progress and setting educational goals. Grades are based on achievement and mastery of subject matter. The school year is divided into four quarter periods of nine weeks each, or two eighteen week semesters. Scholastic progress is graded at the end of each quarter with final grades being issued at the end of each semester. Students receiving unsatisfactory grades will be issued progress reports during each quarter. All semester grades are final.
ACADEMIC HONORS are based on outstanding achievement in a four-year College Preparatory Program with a grade point average of 3.5 in specified courses.
CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION (CSF) GOLD SEAL BEARER is available for students who have been active members in good standing of CSF for four semesters, including one semester in their senior year if they apply for the gold seal. The gold seal is attached to the diploma and a notation of this honor is made on the student's permanent transcript. The gold seal honor affords a student many opportunities for scholarships and grants from colleges throughout the country.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY eligibility depends upon scholarship, character, leadership, service, and activities as verified by teachers' recommendations. Eligible students are selected by the faculty
CAHSEE (California High School Exit Examination) SUSPENDED |
Beginning with the high school graduating class of 2006, all students are required to pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) to receive a high school diploma. State law authorized this new graduation requirement (Senate Bill 2, Statues of 1999). |
Testing dates for the CAHSEE will be designated each year by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Students will have multiple opportunities to retake any portion of the exam previously not passed. |
